Heavy rain storms are adding inches of water daily to Lake Okeechobee. The Lake is now up to 11.9. Bass boats are able to get out on the lake. 6 1/2 lb. & 5 1/2 lb'er - September 29, 2001Florida shiner bass fishing anglers Pete Van Den Berg (Wilderness, South Africa - E-Mail: Petervan@cfan.org) and Greg Pearce (Orlando, FL - ph: 407-859-0505) put up with light to heavy rain showers and gale force winds all day during their wild shiner bass fishing trip on September 29, 2001 with Captain Ron. Although these conditions made the fishing difficult, Pete did manage to catch and released a 6 1/2 lb. (left) and a 5 1/2 lb. (right) bass. Three channel catfish up to 6 lbs were also boated. Bass and catfish were caught in the North Shore area of Lake Okeechobee.

Channel CatfishPete is holding a big channel catfish, one of 3 that were caught on wild shiners during their day of trophy bass fishing with wild shiners. Catfish (channel and Blue's) of this size ( 5 - 6 lbs) and larger are caught frequently on wild shiners. Cats put up a fierce battle and you'll swear when you have one on the line that it must be that trophy bass you have been dreaming of.....! Here's a e-mail testimonial I received from the above party:
