The month of March came in like a lion. Cold fronts and windy conditions shut the bass fishing down.Some fair catches were made despite these poor fishing conditions. The warm spell we are experiencing now will put Okeechobee's bass on the beds during the March full moon. The forecast for the rest of this month is expected to be excellent.

Captain Ron,

The trip was excellent. The amount of fish varied, obviously, per boat. Our boat did the best. Our two day total was around two dozen bass, a couple of gar and one mudfish. The other boats did pretty good, but overall it was somewhat slow. That was probably more to do with the water temperature and the fact that we opted to use artificial lures in most of the boats. The size of fish, though, was better than below average days around here. We all know about Danny's 8.5 lb'er, but he also caught a 5 lb'er that morning. Being from north of the Mason-Dixon line you should know that a 5 is a real big fish for us. Jason, who was with me, also caught his biggest fish--a 5 lb'er--albeit on a shiner (we all told him it doesn't count). I caught a 4.5 lb bass as well. The other fish caught were upwards of 2.5-3.5 lbs.

Florida wild shiner bass fishing brothers (left) Greg Corey (Aruado, CO - e-mail: gregmobil@aol.com) and Tim Corey (Sioux Falls, SD) caught and released about 60 bass that included a 7 lb. and two 6 lb'ers during 3 days of wild shiner fishing on March 11, 12, 13, 2003 with Ron's Guide Service. Greg caught the 7 lb'er. His brother Tim caught two 6 lb'ers. Bass were caught in the Moonshine area of Lake Okeechobee.

Florida wild shiner bass fishing dad Earl and his 18 year-old daughter Monica (Lawrenceburg, IN - e-mail: htown4@earthlink) caught and released about 20 bass that included a 6 3/4 lb'er, one 5 1/2 lb., one 4 3/4 lb., one 4 1/4 lb. and one 4 lb'er during 2 days of shiner bass fishing with Captain Ron on March 9 & 10, 2003. Monica who is an excellent angler caught "ALL THE BASS" with the exception of one her dad managed to land. Bass were caught in North Shore area of Lake Okeechobee.

Andy Anderson (Wilmington, MA - e-mail: shadow1099@netzero.net) and Dominic Spinale Jr. (Billerica, MA) caught and released about 25 bass up to 7 1/4 lbs during 2 days of shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service during March 5, 6 & 7, 2003. Dominic caught and released the 7 1/4 lb'er. Bass where caught on the North Shore area of Lake Okeechobee. Dominic on an earlier trip in March of 1999 caught and released a 9 1/4 lb'er and a 6 1/4 lb'er during 3 days (Mar. 5 - 7, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service. A 6 lb. bass. was also landed by his fishing buddie Armand during that trip.
